The Last Wish of Marjorie tells the story of Samuel Hoffman, a 73-year-old widower, who is trying to come to terms with the recent death of his beloved wife Marjorie. Meanwhile,
Samuel is also facing eviction from the apartment in which he and Marjorie have lived for the past 50 years. As the last tenant remaining in the building, Samuel refuses to move out and let developers tear down the building in order to erect yet another condominium tower.
After listening to a cryptic recording left behind by his late wife, Samuel discovers he has been entrusted with the care of Marjorie’s precious bonsai tree. Sadly, without Marjorie, Samuel is completely helpless and lost, unable to care for himself much less a plant. Samuel snaps out of his stupor when he finds that Marjorie’s bonsai tree, which he had left on the building porch for much needed sunlight, has been stolen. After a frenzied search, he comes face to face with Iris, a tough no nonsense 19 year old girl, who confesses to the theft.
To avoid involving the cops Samuel and Iris arrive at an agreement for a suitable punishment for the crime: Iris must do housekeeping chores and tend to Samuel’s needs for 2 weeks. At first, Samuel dismisses Iris as a shallow drifter. However, the unlikely duo gradually form a deep bond that proves to be life-altering for each of them. In this profound state of rebirth, Samuel is finally ready to fulfill the last wish of his dearly departed Marjorie.
